The Political Rhetoric: A Tale of ‘Mujra’, ‘Poison’, and ‘Hitler’s Death’

In a recent political development, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has responded to the controversy surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mujra’ remark. The term ‘Mujra’, traditionally a form of dance that originated in the Mughal era, was used by PM Modi to criticize the opposition’s vote bank politics.

Poonawalla pointed out the selective outrage of the INDI alliance leaders, highlighting their silence when the same term was used by Uddhav Thackeray for Eknath Shinde. Thackeray, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, had accused the BJP and the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde of “continuously lying” on the $20 billion Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor plant that went to Gujarat. He had remarked, “Eknath Shinde does Mujra in Delhi but doesn’t say anything on Vedanta Foxconn project or any other project,”.

Poonawalla further drew attention to the harsh criticisms PM Modi has faced from opposition leaders. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge had drawn parallels between PM Modi and poison. Kharge, while addressing a press conference, had said, “Modi is like that,” referring to poison.

Moreover, Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay had stirred a controversy by stating that PM Modi “will die Hitler’s death if he follows his path”. Sahay’s remarks were met with strong criticism from the BJP, demanding an apology and action against him.

Poonawalla argued that these leaders were silent when such derogatory remarks were made against PM Modi, implying that they enjoyed this abuse. He emphasized that PM Modi’s ‘Mujra’ remark was a critique of the opposition’s vote bank politics, suggesting that they are willing to bow down in front of their vote bank.

This incident underscores the heated political rhetoric in India, where leaders often resort to controversial remarks to criticize their opponents. It also highlights the selective outrage and the double standards prevalent in political discourse. As the nation moves forward, it is crucial for leaders to engage in constructive criticism and uphold the dignity of political discourse.
