Delhi: Ravi Shankar Prasad Criticises Rahul Gandhi, Alleges Repeated Attempts to Undermine Indian Democracy

In a sharp political attack in Delhi, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of consistently denigrating Indian democracy on foreign soil and making what he described as “baseless and irresponsible” remarks inside and outside Parliament.

Addressing the media, Prasad alleged that Rahul Gandhi has made it a “habit to denigrate Indian democracy abroad,” claiming that his criticism is driven by personal animosity towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “There’s only one reason — he hates PM Modi,” Prasad remarked, asserting that political opposition should not translate into criticism of the country’s democratic institutions at international forums.

The BJP leader also raised questions regarding comments purportedly made by Rahul Gandhi in reference to a book by former Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane. Prasad asked how Gandhi could refer to the contents of the book when it had not yet been published, suggesting that the Congress leader must clarify the source of his information.

Prasad further accused Rahul Gandhi of using inappropriate language and conduct in Parliament. He alleged that Gandhi had referred to a Sikh Union Minister as a “traitor” and addressed the Speaker in an informal and disrespectful manner. He also claimed that, under Gandhi’s direction, women MPs from the Congress party had surrounded the Prime Minister’s chair in Parliament, calling the act an attempt to disrupt decorum and parliamentary tradition.

According to Prasad, making what he described as false statements on the floor of Parliament and raising questions about India’s democratic framework weakens the country’s image globally. He said such actions are “painful” and undermine the credibility of democratic institutions.

The remarks reflect escalating tensions between the BJP and the Congress, with both parties frequently trading allegations over conduct, governance, and the functioning of democratic institutions.
