New Delhi - Hardeep Singh Puri, the newly appointed Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has outlined ambitious plans for the country’s energy sector, promising significant increases in oil and gas production and a faster shift towards ethanol blending.

Puri, who recently took charge of the ministry, announced that oil production from the 98/2 well is set to increase to 45,000 barrels per day in the near future. He also confirmed that gas production from the same well will commence soon, marking a significant step forward in India’s efforts to boost its domestic energy production.

In addition to ramping up oil and gas production, Puri also highlighted the country’s progress in ethanol blending. “We were able to cross 15% of ethanol blending,” he said. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the Prime Minister’s target of achieving 20% blending by 2030.

However, Puri expressed confidence that this target could be met much sooner. “On the basis of what I have seen and the basis of the work in progress, I am reasonably confident that the 20% blending target, which was brought forward from 2030 to 2025, will be completed by the 2025,” he stated.

These announcements underline the government’s commitment to enhancing India’s energy security and reducing its dependence on imported fossil fuels. With these ambitious targets, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is poised to play a crucial role in India’s transition to a more sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
