New Delhi - The political landscape of India is set for a significant shift as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) prepares to form the new government. The meeting of the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the NDA is scheduled to be held on June 7 in the national capital.

The discussions during this meeting will primarily focus on the formation of the new government. This comes after the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recommended the dissolution of the current cabinet, whose term ends on June 16.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal-United (JDU), often referred to as the “kingmakers”, have given their approval for the formation of the new government. With their support, the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi for his new term is likely to take place on June 8.

Both parties are expected to submit formal letters of support to the BJP during a meeting of the alliance, which is scheduled to be held today at 3:30 p.m.

The Election Commission of India has declared the results for 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP has won 240 seats, while the Congress has secured 99 seats. The BJP’s victory tally is significantly lower than its 2019 tally of 303 and the 282 seats it had won in 2014. On the other hand, the Congress has registered strong growth, winning 99 seats compared to 52 in 2019 and 44 in 2014.

This marks a new chapter in Indian politics, with the BJP-led NDA set to steer the country’s governance for the next term.
