The then British-Indian government established the RIMC on March 13, 1922, with the intention of providing military training to Indian adolescents who may eventually be admitted as military officers in the then British-Indian Army. Since its foundation, RIMC has only trained boys and serves as a feeder school for the Naval Academy and the National Defense Academy.
