In a significant political development, former Congress leader Rohan Gupta has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing disillusionment with his former party's leadership and ideological stance.

Gupta, who served the Congress for 15 years, expressed his grievances and reasons behind his decision during his formal induction into the BJP fold. He pointed out that the Congress, which once commanded the support of the people due to its nationalist ethos, respect for Sanatana (traditional Indian) values, and focus on industrialization, has drifted away from these principles in recent years.

Addressing the media after joining the BJP, Gupta emphasized the erosion of core values within the Congress party, particularly regarding the respect for Sanatana traditions. He lamented the alleged sidelining of leaders who stood up for these values and criticized the party leadership for what he perceived as an alliance with individuals and entities accused of anti-national activities.

Gupta highlighted instances where he felt silenced within the Congress party, particularly on issues related to the disrespect of Sanatana values. He questioned the party's decision to form alliances with political figures like Arvind Kejriwal, whom he accused of associations with Khalistani elements and corruption, suggesting a contradiction in seeking votes for such individuals.

Expressing concern for the welfare of Congress workers, Gupta criticized what he termed as the party leadership's "lust for power" at the expense of its ideological moorings. He lamented the perceived transformation of the Congress into a platform that he described as "leftist" and asserted that the party failed to maintain the self-respect of individuals like him who had dedicated years to its service.

With a mix of regret and determination, Gupta announced his decision to join the BJP, symbolizing a significant shift in his political allegiance. He characterized his move as one made with a "broken heart and a clean shirt," signifying both the emotional weight of his decision and his commitment to a fresh political start.

Gupta's decision to switch sides underscores the evolving political landscape in Delhi and the broader ideological realignments occurring within Indian politics. As he embarks on a new journey within the BJP, his remarks serve as a reminder of the challenges facing traditional political parties in maintaining their ideological coherence and adapting to changing societal dynamics.
