In a key policy decision, the Delhi Cabinet has approved the continuation of power subsidies for several beneficiary groups, including farmers, 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims, lawyers' chambers, and existing domestic consumers.

Announcing the decision, Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood said, “Today, the Delhi Cabinet has made a decision over power subsidy. In a special proposal, the Cabinet has decided to continue the subsidy for farmers, 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims, lawyers’ chambers, and existing domestic consumers.”

Sood emphasized that the move puts an end to ongoing speculation and “disinformation” about the possible withdrawal of power subsidies. “A continuous disinformation was being spread that the Delhi Government would stop the subsidy. With this decision, that disinformation stops,” he said.

Taking a swipe at political critics, Sood added, “Self-declared unemployed leader will continue to peddle such lies every day. But the Delhi Government will work at its pace and cancel all such lies.”

The decision is being seen as a significant relief for thousands of residents and professionals in the capital who depend on subsidized electricity, especially amid rising power costs.
