In a recent statement, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the Congress party for what he perceives as a ‘family first, not nation first’ mindset. He accused the party of treating the country’s territory as the private property of one family.

Poonawalla referred to the 1960s when then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru allegedly referred to Kachchatheevu island as an inconsequential piece of land that should be given away. He argued that this mindset led to the handing over of PoK and Aksai Chin, and even the loss of Assam.

“Today, the remarks of Digvijaya Singh show the mindset of Congress,” Poonawalla said. “That they always think that the country’s territory is the private property of one family. Therefore, with this mindset, even Nehru ji had said in the 1960s that Kachchatheevu island is an inconsequential piece of land and should be given away.”

He further added, “With this mindset, PoK was handed over, Aksai Chin was handed over…we even lost Assam thanks to Nehru ji and this mindset.”

Poonawalla also highlighted the ongoing issues faced by the fishermen of Tamil Nadu, which he believes are a consequence of this mindset. His comments have sparked a debate on the historical decisions of the Congress party and their impact on the current geopolitical situation of the country.
