Union Home Minister Amit Shah Champions Efforts Towards a Drug-Free India

Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored India's commitment towards achieving a drug-free nation during the 7th Apex Level Narco-Coordination Center (NCORD) meeting held in Delhi. Emphasizing the gravity of the challenge and the opportunities it presents, Shah rallied government agencies to unite in a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking and abuse across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Shah articulated, "The resolution of a drug-free India is not just a formidable goal but also our greatest opportunity. If we confront this challenge with bravery, unity, and unwavering determination, victory is within our grasp." His remarks highlighted the critical need for collaborative action and sustained efforts to tackle the pervasive issue of drug trafficking.

Reflecting on the government's achievements over the past decade, Shah outlined a comprehensive strategy built on three foundational pillars: structural reforms, institutional reforms, and extensive awareness campaigns. He underscored the holistic approach adopted by the government to address the multifaceted dimensions of the drug menace.

Shah provided compelling statistics to illustrate the progress made in combating drug trafficking under the current administration. "From 2004 to 2013, approximately 1.52 lakh kilograms of drugs were seized, valued at Rs 5,933 crore. In contrast, from 2014 to 2024, we seized 5.43 lakh kilograms of drugs, valued at more than Rs 22,000 crore," Shah disclosed, highlighting a significant threefold increase in successful seizures over the past decade.

The Home Minister's remarks underscored the government's steadfast commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking, bolstered by enhanced enforcement measures, intelligence sharing, and international cooperation. He commended the collective efforts of law enforcement agencies and reiterated the government's resolve to continue strengthening India's anti-drug strategy.
