Addressing the nation on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stirring speech reflecting on India's history of corruption and promising a future free from such malpractices. Modi's remarks came during a virtual town hall where he engaged with citizens on the topic of governance and transparency.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the country in the past, Modi stated, "There was a period of scams when it was shamelessly accepted publicly that if 1 rupee is sent from Delhi, only 15 paise reaches. In 1 rupee, there is a scam of 85 paise." He painted a stark picture of widespread corruption that had plagued the nation, leading to what he described as a "world of scams" that brought despair to the people.

The Prime Minister did not mince words as he recounted the era of policy paralysis and economic vulnerability, famously termed as the "fragile 5." During this period, India struggled with stalled decision-making processes and economic uncertainties, hindering progress and development.

Addressing the issue of everyday corruption faced by ordinary citizens, Modi highlighted instances where common people had to resort to bribery for basic necessities. "If a poor person wants to buy a house, he had to give a bribe of thousands of rupees. For a gas connection, people had to make rounds to MPs and even then did not get a gas connection," he lamented.

However, Modi struck an optimistic note, emphasizing the strides made in combating corruption and ensuring accountability in governance. He cited initiatives such as digital governance, direct benefit transfers, and transparent auctions of natural resources as steps towards creating a more transparent and efficient administration.

Promising a corruption-free future, Modi called upon citizens to participate actively in the fight against corruption. "Our government is committed to creating a corruption-free India. We have implemented policies and systems to ensure that every rupee of public money is spent for the welfare of the people," he asserted.

The Prime Minister's speech resonated with citizens across the country, many of whom took to social media to express their support for the government's anti-corruption efforts. With the upcoming elections on the horizon, Modi's focus on clean governance and transparency is expected to feature prominently in his party's campaign agenda.

As India continues on its path of economic recovery and growth, the Prime Minister's commitment to rooting out corruption remains a cornerstone of his administration's vision for a prosperous and equitable society.
