BJP Criticizes Rahul Gandhi's Views on Regional Differences and Constitution

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla launched a sharp critique against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, questioning his stance on regional issues and the idea of India. Speaking at a press conference, Poonawalla challenged Gandhi’s comments on regional understanding and criticized the Congress party’s record on national unity.

Poonawalla began by recalling Gandhi’s previous remarks following his electoral defeat in Amethi, where Gandhi allegedly suggested that people in North and Uttar Pradesh did not grasp the issues at hand, while those in Kerala did. "When Rahul Gandhi lost an election in Amethi, he said that the people of north and Uttar Pradesh didn't understand the issues. He also said that the people of Kerala understand the issues," Poonawalla said. "Is this your idea of India? Is this your idea of putting one state against the other?"

Poonawalla’s criticism extended to comments made by Congress leader DK Shivkumar’s brother, who purportedly suggested that the South should separate from the North. "We also remember how one of the leaders of Congress party, brother of DK Shivkumar, said that the south should separate from the north. Is this your idea of India?" Poonawalla asked, further condemning the divisive rhetoric.

The BJP leader also referenced past statements from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) regarding North India, implying that such remarks are at odds with a unified national identity. "We also remember what statements DMK has made about the entire North India," he said, adding that these comments undermine national cohesion.

Poonawalla also criticized Gandhi’s stance on the idea of India as articulated by the Congress party, questioning the party’s position on the legacy of Indira Gandhi. "Today, if Rahul Gandhi truly believes in the idea of India, what is the idea of India? Indira is India? That is what Congress has said," Poonawalla stated. He urged Gandhi to clarify the Congress party’s position on controversial statements that equate one individual with the entire nation.

In his address, Poonawalla also took issue with Gandhi’s advocacy for constitutional values, likening it to "the devil preaching scriptures." He questioned Gandhi’s stance on Article 370, a topic of significant debate in Indian politics, suggesting that Gandhi’s alliance partners have supported its revival. "Today Rahul Gandhi should condemn that statement," Poonawalla insisted. "Your alliance partner is saying 370 should come back... Do you support 370? Rahul Gandhi should clarify this rather than preaching to us."

The BJP’s critique reflects ongoing tensions between the major political parties over issues of regionalism, national unity, and constitutional values. Poonawalla’s remarks highlight the broader political debate regarding the vision for India and the role of regional and national identities in shaping the country's future.
