Uttarakhand CM Dhami Supports Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Defends Land Encroachment Drive

In a recent statement, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has voiced strong support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, highlighting its significance in addressing controversial land issues associated with the Waqf Board. CM Dhami argued that the bill will curb the misuse of land and prevent unauthorized land grabs, a problem he claims has plagued the Waqf Board in the past.

“There were a lot of controversial cases about land being grabbed by the Waqf Board. These kinds of activities will stop because of the bill,” Dhami asserted. He criticized the opposition, accusing them of opposing government initiatives for the sake of opposition rather than constructive criticism. “The only goal of the Opposition is to oppose. They oppose everything that the government does,” Dhami said.

In addition to his support for the bill, Dhami provided an update on Uttarakhand’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal land encroachment. He noted that a drive to reclaim illegally occupied land had been temporarily paused due to the monsoon season but will resume once the rains have ceased. “5000 acres of illegally encroached land have been freed till now,” Dhami reported, underscoring the government's commitment to addressing land issues and restoring rightful ownership.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has sparked significant debate, aims to strengthen regulatory frameworks around Waqf properties and enhance transparency and accountability. As the legislative process continues, Dhami’s statements reflect the government’s determination to address both land encroachment and the management of Waqf properties effectively.
