Historic Triumph: Delhi FC Win I-League Title

Date:

Delhi: Delhi FC has won the 2025-26 I-League football title. This is a significant achievement for the club. The Delhi team performed consistently well throughout the season and outperformed other strong teams. Their last match was against United SC at the Kalyani Stadium. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. This one point helped Delhi FC top the points table and become champions.

The decisive fixture saw Delhi FC face early resistance as United SC struck first, with Susovan Ghosh heading home in the 54th minute following a well-executed corner. Despite the setback, Delhi FC showed composure and tactical discipline, gradually regaining control of the match. Their persistence paid off in the 67th minute when Himanshu Jangra levelled the score, finishing calmly from close range after a precise assist from Samson Keishing.

With the equaliser, Delhi FC shifted focus towards game management, prioritising defensive stability over risk-taking in the final stages. Their backline held firm under pressure, ensuring the match ended in a draw—an outcome that ultimately secured them the championship title on points consistency over the season.

The result also confirmed that FC Bengaluru United secured the second promotion spot, following a similar draw in their final match, underlining the tight competition for advancement from the league. However, Delhi FC’s superior overall campaign ensured they finished as table toppers.

Throughout the season, Delhi FC demonstrated remarkable consistency, balance between attack and defence, and strong game management in high-pressure situations. Their ability to secure crucial points in closely contested matches played a key role in their title-winning run, particularly during the final phase of the competition.

This triumph marks an important milestone in the club’s recent development, reinforcing their status as one of the emerging forces in Indian football’s competitive structure. The achievement also sets the stage for Delhi FC’s preparation for a higher level of competition in the upcoming season, where they are expected to face stronger and more established opponents.

The team is still celebrating, but now they are preparing for the next season. Their main goal is to maintain their excellent form and get stronger. To do this, they will need good players and consistency to survive and continue to be successful in the top division.
