Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday confirmed that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to examine the proposal of ‘One Nation, One Election’ is actively continuing its work, with a scheduled meeting taking place today.

“The JPC formed for the 'One Nation, One Election' is doing its work and today there will be a meeting too in this regard,” Meghwal said while addressing the media.

The minister, however, refrained from commenting further on the committee’s deliberations. “We will talk over this after the reports will come,” he added, suggesting that the government will await the committee’s findings before making any further announcements.

The concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’—which proposes simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies—has been a key agenda item for the central government, citing benefits such as cost savings, streamlined governance, and reduced election fatigue. The JPC is expected to evaluate legal, logistical, and constitutional challenges associated with implementing the proposal.
