Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College (SGTB Khalsa College), a constituent college of the University of Delhi, recently hosted a significant academic engagement in collaboration with the World Bank Group (WBG) and the South Asian Students’ Economics Meet (SAESM), reinforcing its growing reputation as a hub for intellectual and policy-oriented student activities.

The event, held on April 22, 2026, took place at the college’s Master Tara Singh Auditorium and brought together students, faculty members, and international development professionals for a unique knowledge-sharing experience centered around economics, public policy, and global development themes. The programme was designed to encourage analytical thinking and deepen students’ understanding of real-world economic challenges.

A key highlight of the event was a competitive quiz conducted under the broader initiative linked to the World Bank Group’s #ClearHerPath campaign, which focuses on addressing barriers to women’s economic empowerment and improving access to opportunities for women in the workforce. The quiz aimed to make participants engage with important development issues while also testing their knowledge of economics, current affairs, and policy frameworks.

The event saw participation and interaction from notable representatives of the collaborating organisations. Among the prominent guests were Vysakh Sateesh from the World Bank Group, Vinita Daryani, Digital Media Specialist (External Affairs) at WBG, and Dr. Mihir Pandey, a founding member of the SAESM Governing Council. Their presence added strong academic and professional value to the programme, as they interacted with students and highlighted the importance of youth participation in global development discussions.

According to organisers, the collaboration was aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical global economic issues. Students were encouraged to think critically about topics such as women’s participation in the economy, inclusive growth, and sustainable development policies. The quiz format helped create a competitive yet educational environment where participants could apply theoretical knowledge to contemporary global challenges.

Faculty members from SGTB Khalsa College noted that such initiatives are part of the institution’s broader effort to promote interdisciplinary learning and exposure to international organisations. The college has been increasingly engaging with external partners to provide students with opportunities beyond traditional academic boundaries.

The collaboration with SAESM and the World Bank Group also reflects the growing importance of student-led economic forums in India, which aim to cultivate leadership, research aptitude, and policy awareness among young learners. Events like these are seen as crucial in preparing students for careers in economics, governance, public policy, and international development.

Overall, the programme was described as a successful academic initiative that combined competition, collaboration, and learning in a single platform. It not only enhanced student engagement but also strengthened institutional ties between SGTB Khalsa College and global organisations working in the field of economic development.

With such events, the college continues to position itself as an active participant in shaping informed, globally aware students who can contribute meaningfully to discussions on development, equality, and economic progress.
