Union Home Minister Criticizes Delhi CM’s Statement on Refugees

  • March 14, 2024, 1:16 p.m.

In a recent interview with ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s controversial statement that granting citizenship to refugees would lead to an increase in thefts and rapes. Shah retorted, “The Delhi CM has lost his calm (aapa kho baithe hai) after his corruption was exposed.”

Shah’s comments come in the wake of Kejriwal’s remarks, which have sparked a heated debate on the issue of refugees in India. The Home Minister accused Kejriwal of being unaware of the reality that many of these refugees are already residing in India. He questioned Kejriwal’s silence on the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators and his lack of opposition to the Rohingyas.

Shah accused Kejriwal of engaging in vote bank politics and forgetting the history of the partition. He suggested that Kejriwal should meet with refugee families to understand their plight.

“The Delhi CM has lost his calm after his corruption was exposed,” Shah said, adding that Kejriwal’s comments were a reflection of his political desperation. “He does not know that all these people have already come and are living in India. If he is so concerned, then why doesn’t he talk about Bangladeshi infiltrators or oppose the Rohingyas?”

Shah’s comments have added fuel to the ongoing debate on the issue of refugees in India. His remarks have drawn attention to the complexities of the refugee issue and the need for a comprehensive and humane approach to it.

The Home Minister’s criticism of Kejriwal’s statement underscores the political tensions surrounding the refugee issue. It remains to be seen how Kejriwal will respond to Shah’s comments and whether this debate will lead to a more nuanced discussion on the issue of refugees in India.
