Union Home Minister Amit Shah Addresses Concerns Over Citizenship Amendment Act

In a recent press conference, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the ongoing concerns and misconceptions surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The minister’s comments came in response to questions about the number of people who have gained citizenship since the implementation of the CAA.

“There are a lot of people, there is no count as of now,” Shah stated, acknowledging the difficulty in providing an exact figure due to the current climate of misinformation and fear. He attributed this uncertainty to a widespread “mis-campaign” that has led many eligible individuals to hesitate before filing their applications.

Shah took the opportunity to reassure potential applicants, urging them to have faith in the Narendra Modi government. “I want to assure everyone to apply here and have faith in the Narendra Modi government that you will be given citizenship with retrospective effect,” he said.

The Home Minister further clarified the purpose and provisions of the CAA. “This law is accepting you as a refugee. If you have entered India illegally, there will be no criminal case against you,” he explained. This statement is aimed at dispelling fears among those who have entered the country under duress and are now worried about legal repercussions.

Shah ended his address with a strong message of inclusivity and equality. “There is no need for anyone to get scared. Everyone will be given equal rights as they will become the citizens of India,” he affirmed.

The minister’s comments are expected to bring some clarity and reassurance to those affected by the CAA. However, it remains to be seen how these statements will be received by the public and how they will impact the ongoing discussions surrounding the CAA.
