Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced that the Central government’s Agriculture Ministry has granted permission to various state governments to purchase pulses, including Toor, Masoor, and Urad dal, at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Chauhan confirmed that the procurement process for Toor Dal is already underway in several states, with more steps being taken to facilitate the buying process for other crops.

"The Agriculture Ministry of the Central government has given permission to the State governments to buy Toor, Masoor, and Urad dal. The work of purchasing Toor Dal is going on. In Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana, the purchase at MSP through NAFED and NCCF is ongoing," said Chauhan during a press briefing.

The minister further urged state governments to ensure that the scheme for the procurement of pulses at MSP is properly implemented, emphasizing the need for coordination between the central and state agencies to safeguard farmers’ interests. He also highlighted that the procurement of other crops such as Gram, Mustard, and Masoor will take place under the Prime Minister's Agricultural Support and Assurance (PM Asha) Yojana.

"We have given approval to different states (Rajasthan, MP, Gujarat) for the purchase of Mustard," Chauhan added, signaling the government's continued commitment to supporting farmers through MSP-based procurement.

In an effort to streamline the process, the minister also announced that the registration process for farmers would be simplified through the use of NAFED and NCCF portals, allowing for more efficient participation in the procurement system. "To simplify the registration process for farmers, we have ensured the use of NAFED and NCCF portals," Chauhan said, urging state governments to effectively cooperate in implementing these procurement measures.

Chauhan’s appeal to state governments emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the procurement process runs smoothly, ultimately ensuring fair prices for farmers and contributing to the stability of agricultural markets. As the procurement process continues across various states, the central government hopes to alleviate the financial strain on farmers and guarantee that their produce is bought at fair, government-mandated prices.
