Sudhanshu Trivedi Accuses Congress of Appeasement, Warns Against Understanding With Jamaat-e-Islami

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the INDI alliance, alleging that their “appeasement politics” has taken a dangerous turn. His remarks came in response to a statement by Kerala Leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader VD Satheesan, who reportedly said that he is open to entering into an understanding with Jamaat-e-Islami.

Addressing the issue, Trivedi claimed that the Congress in Kerala is already in alliance with the Muslim League and is now moving further by expressing willingness to associate with Jamaat-e-Islami. He said this marked a shift from what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has earlier described as the “Muslim League-e-Maoist-Congress” to what he termed a “Jamaat-e-Congress.”

“The INDI alliance’s perpetual pursuit of appeasement has now crossed another line,” Trivedi said. He alleged that such political understandings are aimed at short-term electoral gains and come at the cost of national unity and security.

The BJP MP further accused the Muslim League of having contributed to the division of the country and warned that any association with Jamaat-e-Islami was a matter of serious concern. Calling it an “alarming sign for the people of Kerala,” Trivedi said the Congress was “ready to sell all its stakes to very precarious forces.”

Referring to Kerala’s high literacy rate, Trivedi expressed confidence that the people of the state would see through what he described as a “nefarious design.” He alleged that certain forces associated with such organisations had historically dreamt of turning India into an Islamic country.

The Congress has not yet issued an official response to Trivedi’s remarks. The issue is likely to further intensify political debate in Kerala and at the national level as parties trade charges ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
