Rahul Gandhi a Leader of Pessimism, Not Opposition, Says BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla

Delhi: BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in pessimism and propaganda rather than constructive opposition, especially in response to the Union Budget.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s post-Budget remarks, Poonawalla said the Congress leader repeatedly delivers the same negative response every year, irrespective of the Budget’s content. He remarked that Rahul Gandhi seems to believe that LoP stands for “leader of propaganda” and “leader of pessimism,” portraying him as a habitual critic who thrives on cynicism and negativity.

Poonawalla said that Rahul Gandhi’s statements lack credibility and seriousness, adding that even leaders within the Congress party do not fully endorse his views. He cited the example of senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, noting that when asked about Rahul Gandhi’s earlier claim that the Indian economy was “dead,” Chidambaram declined to echo the statement.

“This shows that even his own party does not take him seriously,” the BJP spokesperson said, asserting that Rahul Gandhi’s comments fail to resonate with the public or economic experts.

Poonawalla further stated that while the government focuses on development, growth and long-term economic stability, Rahul Gandhi continues to respond with predictable negativity, which, according to him, weakens the role of a responsible opposition in a democracy.
