Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the ‘Startup Mahakumbh’ at Bharat Mandapam, highlighted the impact of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the role of women in India’s startup ecosystem.

During his address, PM Modi shared that leaders from various countries were “awestruck” by India’s UPI during the G20 Summit. “UPI has strengthened our efforts for financial inclusion. It has helped India to bridge the rural-urban divide,” he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that India has democratized the use of technology, rising above the ‘haves and have-nots’ debate. This democratization, he believes, is a significant step towards ensuring equal access to technological advancements across the country.

In a nod to the increasing participation of women in the startup sector, PM Modi stated, “Over 45% of our startups are run by women.” This statistic underscores the growing presence of women in a sector traditionally dominated by men, signaling a shift towards gender equality in entrepreneurship.

The ‘Startup Mahakumbh’ is a significant event in India’s startup calendar, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations and interact with industry leaders and policymakers. PM Modi’s speech underscored the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and robust startup ecosystem in India.
