No Ban on Autorickshaws, Says Delhi Transport Minister Amid EV Policy Buzz

Amid growing speculation and public concern over the future of autorickshaws under Delhi's upcoming electric vehicle (EV) policy, Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh has clarified that no such ban is being considered.

Addressing the media, Dr. Singh stated, “I have told you earlier that our cabinet met for a meeting. We are discussing this. There is disinformation that autorickshaws will be discontinued. There is nothing like that. All vehicles will continue to ply. All good facilities will be provided to the people of Delhi.”

The minister’s remarks come in response to rumors suggesting that traditional petrol and CNG-powered autorickshaws might be phased out as part of the city’s aggressive push towards electric mobility.

While the Delhi government has been at the forefront of promoting electric vehicles through subsidies, infrastructure upgrades, and policy initiatives, officials maintain that the transition will be gradual and inclusive.

Dr. Singh reassured residents and transport workers alike that the government’s focus is on improving urban mobility, not disrupting livelihoods or essential services. Further details of the EV policy are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
