NHAI Begins Verification of Vehicle Registration Numbers Linked to FASTags

New Delhi, April 16, 2026: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started a nationwide verification drive to check vehicle registration numbers linked with FASTags, aiming to improve the efficiency and transparency of toll collection across highways.

The move comes amid concerns over incorrect or mismatched vehicle details associated with FASTags, which can lead to misuse and revenue leakage. By ensuring that each FASTag is accurately mapped to the correct vehicle, authorities intend to streamline toll operations and reduce disputes at toll plazas.

Officials said that users with incomplete or incorrect registration details may face issues such as transaction failures or penalties during toll payments. To avoid inconvenience, FASTag holders are advised to log in to their issuing bank or service provider’s portal and verify their vehicle information.

FASTag, an electronic toll collection system operated under the National Electronic Toll Collection program, enables automatic deduction of toll charges using RFID technology. It has been made mandatory for vehicles on most national highways to promote cashless and faster travel.

The verification exercise is expected to enhance compliance, minimize fraud, and ensure smoother journeys for commuters. NHAI has urged all users to complete the verification process at the earliest to avoid disruptions.
