Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently addressed the orientation program for newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs), emphasizing the importance of upholding the dignity and decorum of the House. His remarks underscored the critical role that MPs play in enhancing the prestige of India's democracy on the global stage.

In his address, Speaker Birla highlighted the responsibilities that come with being an MP. "It is our responsibility to increase the prestige of our country's democracy in front of the world," he asserted. He stressed that MPs must be vigilant about their conduct and adhere to parliamentary decorum.

Birla outlined several key practices for maintaining the integrity of parliamentary proceedings. He advised MPs against making comments while entering the House and emphasized the importance of standing up when their name is called. "You shouldn't sit and pass comments when you walk into the House," he said, calling for a respectful and disciplined approach to parliamentary sessions.

The Speaker also addressed the need for impartiality in his role. "The Speaker never differentiates according to party and ideology," Birla stated. "For a Speaker, all are the same, and all ideologies are the same." This remark underscored his commitment to fairness and equality in managing parliamentary affairs.

Birla's address was part of an orientation program designed to familiarize new MPs with the workings of the Lok Sabha and the expectations of their roles. The emphasis on decorum and responsibility reflects a broader effort to ensure that parliamentary processes are conducted with respect and efficiency, reinforcing the credibility and effectiveness of India's democratic institutions.

As new MPs embark on their legislative journey, Speaker Birla’s guidance aims to foster a culture of respect and responsibility within the Lok Sabha, thereby strengthening the foundations of democracy in India.
