The Punjab and Haryana governments, as well as National Commission for Minorities chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura, were previously accused by the SGPC and Shiromani Akali Dal of meddling in the religious affairs of the Sikh community by attempting to "break" the gurdwara body. These accusations were made in addition to those against the RSS and the Center.

According to Narayana Murthy, "Even our IITs have become coaching centres."
