Kiren Rijiju Criticizes AIMIM-RJD Alliance Talk, Reaffirms India’s Secular Fabric

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday responded sharply to AIMIM Bihar President Akhtarul Iman's appeal to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to include AIMIM in the Mahagathbandhan alliance ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

Rijiju dismissed the alliance effort as communal, asserting that the BJP is the true secular party in India. "We are the ones who are secular. We do not conduct our politics based on caste or religion. Such parties are communal," he said, in a direct jibe at AIMIM, RJD, and their potential allies.

He further emphasized that India provides equal safety and freedom to all its citizens, regardless of religion. "Muslims are just as safe in India as Hindus. The freedom that every religion gets in India is unmatched," Rijiju stated.

His comments come amid growing speculation over opposition unity ahead of the Bihar elections. While some parties have labelled AIMIM as divisive or aligned with the BJP, the recent outreach by Akhtarul Iman to RJD signals potential realignment.

Rijiju’s remarks also underline the BJP’s long-standing narrative that the party upholds a unified national identity over vote-bank politics.

The political discourse in Bihar is heating up as parties strategize for the upcoming state polls. The inclusion of AIMIM in the Mahagathbandhan remains uncertain, but the BJP is clearly positioning itself as a defender of secularism and unity.
