India Revokes Most Visas Issued to Pakistani Nationals Amid Security Concerns

New Delhi: In a major policy shift, the Government of India has revoked all existing visas issued to Pakistani nationals, with immediate effect from April 27, 2025. The decision, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), applies to all visa categories except long-term, diplomatic, and official visas. Medical visas granted to Pakistani citizens will remain valid only until April 29, 2025.

This significant step comes in the backdrop of heightened security concerns following recent incidents, including the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The MHA stated that Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with the Chief Secretaries of all states to discuss the implementation of this directive. States have been instructed to take necessary action to ensure compliance.

The move reflects India’s increasing resolve to tighten border and immigration controls in light of national security threats. While no specific link was drawn between the decision and any particular event, experts believe it sends a strong message regarding the government’s stance on terrorism and cross-border threats.

This visa revocation is expected to impact a number of travelers and may influence India-Pakistan diplomatic relations in the near future.
