Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday announced that the city achieved a significant milestone in weather modification with the successful trial of cloud seeding under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The trial marks the first time Delhi has conducted such an experiment to induce artificial rain.

“Today was a historic day for Delhi as the Delhi government, under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, achieved a historic milestone. The first successful trial of cloud seeding was done today,” Sirsa said, highlighting the government’s commitment to innovative solutions for environmental challenges.

The minister added that the government is fully prepared for the next phase of operations. According to the meteorological department, clouds are expected over the city from 28 to 30 October. The authorities have completed all necessary physical trials and obtained the required permissions to carry out artificial rain on 29 October.

Cloud seeding involves introducing substances into clouds to encourage rainfall, which can help reduce pollution levels and alleviate water shortages. This initiative is part of Delhi’s broader efforts to combat air pollution, especially during the winter months when smog and particulate matter typically increase.

Officials believe that if successful, artificial rain could help improve air quality, reduce dust, and provide much-needed relief from the city’s environmental challenges. The government has emphasized that public safety and scientific protocols will be strictly followed during the operation.

This trial is seen as a significant step forward in Delhi’s environmental management strategy, showcasing the administration’s focus on innovative and sustainable solutions to urban challenges.
