Reacting sharply to the alleged gangrape incident in Kolkata, BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, demanding her immediate resignation over what he called a “shameful failure to protect women.”

Addressing reporters in Delhi, Vallabh questioned the repeated appearance of TMC links in criminal cases, stating, “What is the relationship between the gang rape accused and the TMC? Why do accused in such heinous crimes often turn out to be members of the ruling party?”

He expressed outrage that TMC leaders and MPs were seen standing with the accused, downplaying the crime as a personal dispute or matter of friendship. “It is disgraceful to see such defence. What should we do?—is that your answer to a gangrape?” he asked, condemning what he described as a blatant attempt to shield the accused.

Vallabh further said that West Bengal has become synonymous with anarchy, corruption, and nepotism, and argued that the presence of a woman CM makes the state's failure to safeguard women even more disturbing.

He concluded with a strong demand: “Any government that fails to protect its women loses its moral right to stay in power. Mamata Banerjee must resign immediately.”
