The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Rohini E-ward councillor Pravesh Wahi as its official candidate for the post of Mayor in the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election, marking an important political move in Delhi’s civic landscape.

Pravesh Wahi represents Ward No. 53 (Rohini E) in the MCD and is currently serving as a senior figure within the civic body, holding the position of Leader of the House in the MCD. His selection reflects the party’s emphasis on experienced councillors with strong administrative exposure at the ward level.

The mayoral election is scheduled to be held on April 29, where voting will be conducted by elected councillors along with Members of Parliament and nominated Members of the Legislative Assembly associated with the civic house.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi comprises a total of 250 wards, and the mayor is elected through a voting process involving eligible members of the corporation. The outcome of this election determines the leadership of Delhi’s largest civic governing body.

In the current political composition of the MCD, the BJP holds approximately 123 councillors, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has around 100 councillors, with the remaining seats distributed among other parties and independents. This balance plays a crucial role in shaping the mayoral contest.

Alongside the mayoral nomination, the BJP has also fielded Monica Pant from Ward No. 206 (Anand Vihar) as its candidate for the post of Deputy Mayor, strengthening its overall civic leadership lineup.

The mayor of Delhi plays a key administrative role in managing essential urban services, including waste collection, sanitation systems, road maintenance, public health facilities, and development works across all municipal wards. The position also influences policy execution and budget planning within the civic body.

Pravesh Wahi’s nomination is seen as part of BJP’s broader strategy to strengthen control over municipal governance by selecting leaders with direct experience in local administration. His representation from Rohini E ward, a significant constituency in northwest Delhi, highlights the party’s focus on established grassroots leadership.

With this announcement, the BJP has formally positioned itself for the upcoming civic leadership contest, which will decide the next mayor of Delhi and shape the direction of municipal governance across the capital’s 250-ward structure.
