BJP MP Dinesh Sharma Defends Three-Language Policy in NEP, Criticizes DMK for Attempting to Divert Attention

BJP Member of Parliament Dinesh Sharma has strongly defended the three-language policy in the National Education Policy (NEP), responding to criticisms from the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam). Sharma dismissed the opposition party's concerns, asserting that the policy does not undermine regional languages but rather aims to expand their reach and usage.

"DMK is losing its support base... they just want to divert the attention of people," Sharma stated, accusing the party of using the issue to create a distraction ahead of upcoming political challenges. "Nothing has been given in NEP which will reduce the importance of regional language in any way, rather it will expand regional language," he continued.

Sharma’s comments were in response to the ongoing debate surrounding the three-language formula in the NEP, which has faced backlash from several regional parties, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where concerns about the imposition of Hindi have been raised. Critics argue that the policy could dilute the prominence of regional languages in the educational system, but Sharma reassured that the policy encourages the growth and adoption of regional languages.

He emphasized that the NEP is designed to promote linguistic diversity and ensure that students across the country are proficient in multiple languages, which will ultimately help foster better communication and integration. "Efforts are being made to make more people adopt regional language," Sharma said, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening local languages alongside Hindi and English.

The issue of language in education remains a sensitive one, with political parties using it to rally support from various linguistic communities. As the debate continues, Sharma’s defense of the NEP highlights the government's stance on enhancing educational opportunities while respecting regional diversity.
