BJP Criticizes Kerala Assembly's Resolution Against Waqf Amendment Bill

BJP national secretary Anil Antony has expressed strong disapproval following the Kerala Assembly's unanimous resolution against the Waqf Amendment Bill, highlighting concerns for property rights among marginalized communities.

In his remarks, Antony emphasized the plight of over 600 families from the poor fishermen community who, he claimed, had purchased and developed land with their hard-earned money. He stated that the Waqf Board is now asserting rights over these properties, a situation he described as part of a larger pattern observed across Kerala and, indeed, throughout India.

Noting that many prominent organizations in Kerala, including the Syro Malabar and Syro-Malankara Churches, have urged the Central Government to amend the provisions of the Waqf Bill to prevent such "exploitative instances," Antony criticized the response from the Congress and CPI(M). He accused these parties, which are part of the INDI Alliance at the national level, of engaging in a "mock fight" in Kerala solely to undermine the BJP.

"They have come together and taken this anti-people stance, appeasing certain minorities at the expense of the rights of the poor," Antony stated. He argued that this position infringes on individuals' rights to own property and live with dignity, calling it "very disappointing."

As the debate surrounding the Waqf Amendment Bill continues, the BJP is positioning itself as a defender of property rights for vulnerable communities in Kerala, setting the stage for potential political ramifications in the upcoming electoral landscape.
