The demolition of the Vanatara resort in Uttarakhand's Rishikesh, which is owned by the BJP leader's son, Pulkit Arya, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 19-year-old receptionist, was carried out on the orders of the state government. The Uttarakhand CM, Pushkar Dhami, gave the orders for the demolition of the resort after the murder of the teen fuelled protests.

"The demolition of the resort orders for which were given by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is underway," Abhinav Kumar, Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, told ANI.

The three accused—Pulkit Arya, who owns the resort in Yamkeshwar block here, resort manager Saurabh Bhaskar, and assistant manager Ankit Gupta—were sent to 14-day judicial custody by a court, police said.

Moreover, the CM has also given orders to district magistrates to investigate all the resorts in the state following the alleged killing of the teenager, which sparked protests. The Chief Minister has also ordered to ensure that necessary action is taken against resorts that are operating illegally.

STRICT PENALTIES FOR SUCH CRIME

Dhami said that the strictest punishment would be given for such crimes. "It is unfortunate. The police are working. They have done their work to make the arrests. "Whoever the criminal is, the most severe punishment will be meted out for such heinous crimes.

"I thank the CM who took the matter seriously and ordered action immediately against the accused. I also thank him for suspending a revenue police sub-inspector who misbehaved with the victim's parents at the time of filing a complaint on the matter, "the MLA added.

Pulkit Arya is the son of Vinod Arya, a BJP leader from Haridwar. Vinod Arya was formerly the chairman of the Uttarakhand Mati Kala Board with a state minister's rank. Three people, including resort owner Pulkit Arya, were arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged killing of the girl, who had gone missing about six days ago. The girl was reported missing on September 18.

The father of the girl alleged that the girl was molested by the accused and that the audio of the incident had been recorded.
