Shehzad Poonawalla Slams Congress for 'Supporting Pakistan Narratives' Amid Tensions

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of aligning with Pakistan's narrative during times of heightened tension between the two countries. Speaking to reporters, Poonawalla alleged that the Congress, in its effort to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has repeatedly made statements that aid Pakistan’s propaganda.

“It is shocking that Congress behaves less like India’s opposition and more like a Pakistani ranger,” said Poonawalla. “Whenever Pakistan is isolated globally and receiving a strong response from India, Congress steps in to give them moral support.”

He cited examples where Congress leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Satyapal Malik, and Mallikarjun Kharge made statements that were later quoted by Pakistan to deflect international criticism, particularly after incidents like Pulwama and Pahalgam.

Poonawalla accused Congress of abandoning national interest in favor of political rivalry. “In their 'Modi Virodh', they’ve stooped to 'Desh Virodh' and shown consistent patterns of 'Pakistan Parasti'," he added. The BJP leader further alleged that Congress has done this before — post-26/11, during the revocation of Article 370, and after the Samjhauta Express blast — providing Pakistan with talking points to present itself as a victim.

Calling it a betrayal of national interest, he concluded that Congress’s behavior on international platforms was shameful and undermined India's armed forces.

The remarks come amid Operation Sindoor and India-Pakistan cross-border tensions.
