Indian contemporary artist Sajid Wajid Sheikh has won the prestigious Henry Clews Prize, marking a major international recognition for Indian art practice, according to details shared from the award announcement.

The honour has been conferred by the La Napoule Art Foundation, which awards the Henry Clews Prize as a biennial international residency and fellowship programme for selected global artists working in contemporary and experimental forms.

As part of the award, Sheikh will undertake a year-long artistic residency at the Château de La Napoule in France, where he will receive a research and creation grant to develop new work in a dedicated studio environment. The residency is designed to give artists both time and resources to expand their practice in an international setting.

At the end of the residency, the artist will present his work in a summer exhibition in France, offering him significant global exposure and a platform to showcase the outcomes of his creative process.

The Henry Clews Prize is considered a landmark recognition in the field of sculpture and experimental visual arts, bringing together artists from across the world for cross-cultural exchange and artistic development.

Sajid Wajid Sheikh, known for his multidisciplinary and installation-based practice, often explores themes related to power structures, identity, violence, and socio-political realities through abstract and conceptual forms. His work has previously been exhibited at major platforms such as the India Art Fair and other international art events.

The award is expected to further strengthen his presence in the global art circuit and provide new opportunities for international collaboration, research, and exhibition of contemporary Indian art practice.
