Delhi Steps Up Anti-Pollution Drive; PUCC Verification, More Testing Stations, and Industrial Crackdown Announced

The Delhi government has intensified its fight against rising air pollution with a series of stringent measures, including verification of Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), expansion of testing infrastructure, mandatory use of anti-smog systems, and strict action against polluting industries.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that all PUCCs across the national capital will be thoroughly verified, and strict action will be taken against those found to be fraudulent. Emphasising the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards non-compliance, he said the exercise aims to curb vehicular pollution, one of the major contributors to deteriorating air quality in Delhi.

To strengthen monitoring and enforcement, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has sanctioned four new automatic pollution testing stations. These facilities are expected to improve real-time monitoring and help authorities respond more effectively to pollution spikes.

The minister also announced that Anti-Smog Guns (ASGs) installed on top of high-rise buildings have been granted extended operational time. In addition, building owners have been given the option to install misting systems around their premises to suppress dust and particulate matter. He clarified that the installation of ASGs or misting systems has now been made compulsory, marking a significant step towards controlling construction- and dust-related pollution.

Addressing industrial pollution, Sirsa said the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has issued 411 closure notices to polluting units so far. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also sealed around 400 industrial units found violating environmental norms.

On the weather front, the minister noted that due to an ongoing Western Disturbance, Delhi’s weather conditions are expected to remain unfavourable in the coming days, potentially worsening air quality. He assured that the government is continuously working on additional measures that will prove effective in controlling pollution and safeguarding public health in the capital.

The Delhi government reiterated its commitment to taking all necessary steps to improve air quality and urged citizens and stakeholders to cooperate in implementing pollution control measures.
