In a major step to improve access to affordable cooking fuel, the Delhi Government has doubled the daily availability of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders for migrant workers in the national capital.

Daily LPG Availability Doubled

Following the revised allocation by the Government of India:

  • Daily supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders has increased from 684 to 1,368 units
  • This marks a 100% increase in allocation under the migrant worker category

The move is expected to benefit lakhs of migrant workers living in Delhi by ensuring easier access to clean cooking fuel.

Special Camps to Boost Last-Mile Delivery

To ensure efficient distribution, the government has launched a special outreach campaign:

  • District Magistrates (DMs) have been directed to organize special camps in migrant-dense areas
  • Workers facing issues can approach DM offices to request camps in their locality

These camps will be conducted through authorized LPG distributors of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

Easy Access with Aadhaar

Eligible migrant workers can:

  • Submit their Aadhaar card
  • Make the required payment
  • Receive a 5 kg LPG cylinder on the spot

District enforcement teams will:

  • Monitor the distribution process
  • Assess demand to ensure transparency and efficiency

Focus on Last-Mile Delivery

The initiative aims to strengthen last-mile delivery, ensuring LPG reaches workers at the grassroots level.

Many migrant workers in Delhi often struggle with:

  • Limited LPG access
  • Dependence on costly or unsafe fuel alternatives

This step is expected to significantly ease those challenges.

Part of Migrant Welfare Policy

The scheme is part of the Delhi government’s broader migrant welfare strategy, with key objectives:

  • Promote affordable and clean cooking fuel
  • Reduce reliance on illegal or expensive fuel sources
  • Increase awareness through on-ground camps

Coordinated Implementation

The government has directed all concerned departments to:

  • Work in close coordination
  • Ensure smooth execution of the campaign
  • Maximize outreach among eligible beneficiaries
