BJP MP Sambit Patra Raises Questions on RG Kar Medical College Rape-Murder Incident

  • Sept. 6, 2024, 10:44 p.m.

BJP MP Sambit Patra has called attention to serious concerns surrounding the recent rape-murder incident involving a student at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. Speaking to the media, Patra highlighted allegations made by the victim’s father, which he described as “of paramount importance.”

According to Patra, the victim's father has raised critical questions about the response of local authorities. One key allegation is that when the victim’s body was at the family home, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of North District offered the family money, which they reportedly refused. Patra questioned the motivations behind this offer, suggesting it indicated a potential effort to obscure details of the case.

Patra expressed concerns over the integrity of the administration, questioning why the DC would offer money to the victim’s family if there was nothing to conceal. He suggested that such actions might indicate a cover-up attempt by the West Bengal government under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The BJP MP’s comments reflect broader concerns about transparency and accountability in the handling of the tragic case. Patra’s allegations underscore the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into both the crime itself and the conduct of local authorities.

The incident has garnered significant attention, raising questions about administrative practices and the handling of sensitive cases. As the investigation continues, these revelations are likely to fuel ongoing discussions about governance and justice in the region.
