BJP Leader Shehzad Poonawalla Calls for Mamata Banerjee’s Resignation Amid Controversy

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has intensified calls for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation, alleging misuse of power and intimidation tactics in response to ongoing controversies. Poonawalla’s remarks come as tensions escalate surrounding the handling of a high-profile case in Bengal, which has attracted the attention of both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court.

In a press statement today, Poonawalla accused Banerjee’s government of trying to silence dissent and obstruct investigations. "The pressing question today is when will Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee step down?" Poonawalla said. "Instead of addressing the concerns, her government is resorting to issuing notices and threatening those who speak out against the administration."

Poonawalla highlighted recent actions by the Bengal government, including police summonses issued to doctors and other individuals who have raised their voices regarding the issue at hand. "It is alarming to see the police summoning doctors and other individuals simply for seeking transparency and accountability," he added. "Even MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has been summoned by Kolkata Police for calling for an investigation into the matter."

The BJP leader accused the Bengal government of systematically undermining the investigation and destroying evidence. "The Calcutta High Court has already shown its disapproval of the Bengal government’s handling of this case," Poonawalla said. "Now, the Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the issue, which further underscores the gravity of the situation."

Poonawalla's comments come in the wake of heightened scrutiny and legal challenges faced by the Bengal government. The Supreme Court’s intervention and the High Court’s displeasure with the Bengal administration have fueled demands for accountability and transparency.

"The fact that the Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the potential misuse of power by the Bengal government," Poonawalla asserted. "Given the ongoing legal scrutiny and the government’s efforts to suppress dissent, Mamata Banerjee no longer has the moral authority to remain as Chief Minister."

Poonawalla’s statement reflects the broader political and legal battles unfolding in West Bengal, with calls for reform and accountability intensifying. As the situation continues to develop, the focus remains on the legal and political ramifications for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her administration.
