BJP Leader Manish Chaudhary Urges Relief for Residents Affected by Demolition Drive in Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar

Amid an ongoing demolition drive affecting parts of Taimoor Nagar, BJP leader Manish Chaudhary has called on the Delhi government to provide compensation or alternative housing to affected residents, many of whom have lived in the area for over three decades.

“This demolition drive includes 80–82 slums and houses in the village. These people have been living here for around 30–35 years,” Chaudhary said, highlighting the long-standing nature of the settlements.

He explained that the demolition was triggered after the Maharani Bagh Residents’ Welfare Association filed a case in the Delhi High Court, alleging that waterlogging in their area was caused by encroachments in nearby Taimoor Nagar. “Our government was formed around 2 months ago, and this procedure has been going on for the last 6 months,” he added, pointing out that the demolition order predates the newly elected BJP administration in Delhi.

Chaudhary stated that he has met with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta regarding the matter and plans to continue discussions. “These people have all the documents of the houses, so we will request the government to provide them compensation or any alternative,” he said. “I am here to give a message to the people that we have contacted the CM and we will meet her and ask for an alternative for these people.”

The demolition has sparked tension among residents and raised questions about rehabilitation policies for long-term informal settlers. The Delhi government is yet to make an official statement on the demand for compensation or relocation.
