New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held talks with Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, with both leaders reviewing progress in the India-Nigeria Strategic Partnership and discussing ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Shettima is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the summit, which includes ministers handling key portfolios such as foreign affairs, trade, digital technology, humanitarian affairs, women’s affairs, and science and technology.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress of cooperation in trade, investment, defence, energy, agriculture, health and digital technology. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including the priorities of the Global South, and stressed the need for greater cooperation at multilateral forums.
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening ties with Nigeria and Africa, while Shettima appreciated India’s development experience and its contribution to capacity building and economic growth in Nigeria. Both sides reiterated their commitment to building a long-term partnership aimed at promoting peace, prosperity and development.
