MCD, NDDB Sign MoU to Set Up Compressed Bio-Gas Plants in Delhi to Boost Waste Management and Clean Energy

Date:

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to set up plants for producing Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) from cow dung in the national capital. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah was present at the signing ceremony held in New Delhi.

Speaking at the event, Shah said that this project would help improve cleanliness in cities, increase the income of livestock rearers, and promote organic farming. He stated that this initiative could serve as a model for other major cities in the country.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to clean the Yamuna River, Shah stated that it is essential to prevent cow dung and untreated waste from entering the river. He noted that approximately 80 sewage and industrial waste treatment plants are already being constructed in Delhi and expressed confidence that no untreated wastewater would flow into the Yamuna by December 2028.

The Minister stated that dung collected from approximately 1.25 lakh cattle in Delhi will be processed at facilities in Nangli, Ghogha-Goyla, and Ghazipur. Under the agreement, cattle owners will receive ₹1 per kilogram for the dung supplied for processing, providing them with an additional source of income.
