Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the long-delayed Barapula Elevated Road Phase-3 in Delhi on Tuesday. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, and several dignitaries were present at this grand event. During the occasion, Delhi Government Minister Parvesh Verma levelled serious allegations against the previous AAP government for stalling the project.
At the inauguration ceremony, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma sharply criticised the previous government. He said, “When our government took the oath of office 18 months ago—on February 20—I came here to inspect the construction work just ten days later. The construction of this bridge and flyover had been dragging on for 11 years. Due to this delay, crores of rupees belonging to Delhi’s taxpayers and residents were wasted.”
He stated, “When I arrived here, the engineers told me that for the first time in ten years, a Delhi government official or minister had come to inspect such a crucial project. I visited the site, understood the problems and shortcomings, and resolved issues regarding NOCs and pending approvals; only then could this project be completed.”
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “I congratulate Minister Parvesh Verma and all the officials who made tireless efforts to complete this project. Officials visited the site countless times, maintained constant contact with various departments to secure necessary permissions, and ensured the completion of all related procedures. They conducted numerous site visits. Today, we have the opportunity to witness the completion of this elevated flyover and participate in its inauguration ceremony. This is a matter of joy and satisfaction for all of us.”
She further added, “Today, projects worth ₹1,941 crore are being inaugurated and having their foundation stones laid. This is the power of your single vote—which formed a Bharatiya Janata Party government in Delhi after 27 years—ushering in a wave of development.” Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra said, “Construction work on the Barapullah Bridge began years ago at the very spot where we are standing today.
However, due to the failure of the then Kejriwal government—involving his ministers, MLAs, and Kejriwal’s own tenure as Chief Minister—this project was stalled and delayed. Development was never part of their policy.” He added that today, both the Delhi and Central governments possess the right policy, intent, and leadership. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, development is being advanced across the country alongside the preservation and promotion of our heritage.
