New Delhi: On September 29, India’s Neeru Dhanda won the Gold Medal in the women’s individual trap event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, delivering a stellar performance at the shooting range. With this victory, India secured its fifth gold medal at the Games.
Dhanda finished the final with 28 hits and set a new Asian Games record in the event. China’s Sun Yunong won the silver medal with 26 hits, while Kuwait’s Hajar Abdulmalik secured the bronze medal with 21 hits.
The Indian shooter had also topped the qualification round before reaching the eight-shooter final. Despite the rain, she performed consistently well throughout the competition and maintained her lead when it mattered most.
Earlier in the day, Neeru Dhandha played a key role in securing a silver medal for India in the women’s trap team event. Dhandha represented the Indian team alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer; the trio won the silver medal with a total of 328 points, with Dhandha contributing 118 points to the score. India finished behind China and ahead of Kuwait in this event.
The Asian Games title adds another major achievement to Dhanda’s successful 2026 season. She won her first ISSF World Cup gold medal in the women’s trap event in Lonato, Italy, in July and also clinched the Asian Championship title. Dhanda is a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army and competes representing the Indian Army’s Marksmanship Unit.
